It's illegal in the UK, the US, Canada and even down under in Oz - but every year, thousands of people are duped by this very common scam. It is difficult and expensive to track down the cruds who pull this game, and many police agencies have limited funds for the purpose, believing that there are more urgent tasks that should come first. So our best protection is a healthy dose of skepticism. If it sounds too good to be true - it is.

And it isn't. Forward the e-mail to the FBI letting them know that you're suspicious. I did that once when the prince of Nigeria send me an e-mail letting me know that I had inherited his fortune since he had no other family relatives and had checked my background and found out that I would use the money to better the world and his country. I hope he didn't get mad for that I did.

Another e-mail was from the lawyer of a family that died in a car accident, they traced my last name and found that I was the sole heir of a small fortune, funny, since I don't use my real last name for my yahoo account.

Sadly, the reason why scammers like these exist is because there is people gullible enough to fall for them. One guy in the state of Minnesota received an e-mail from someone in Africa who claimed to be a model, she wanted help to get to the states and get a job, this guy sent him $12,000 dollars, then found out he was ripped off.
