such as serial rapists, people beat their children/wives/husbans? ect.
and then if they give them like 5-10 years(if that) they get out early?!

Well when i watch montel...they say that for a man that set his wife on fire and beat her he only got like 5 years in prison...why?!

Because really dangerous criminals are very valuable to a criminal justice system that needs justification for more and more laws. Most serious crimes are committed by a small number of criminals. The general population would be less likely to accept that they had to give up their firearms. This is called the Hegelian Dialectic.
