Because some people are poorer than others, and by getting uniforms, everyone looks the same and so teachers and administration think that this will stop kids from being harrassed for what they wear.
It also helps to make kids obey a dress code when letting them choose what they wear has failed in the past.

Uniforms in school have its advantages and disadvantages.
Sure, they suppress the ability to fully individualize or express oneself. But is this entirely bad?

Keeping up with fashion is expensive and polarizes students into social classes based upon socio-economic status. The uniform prevents this to an extent, and in most cases, you can still individualize yourself.

With everyone dressing the same, it helps to stem gang activity within the school, and brings people more on the same social level. It allows personality to drive social classes rather than a more superficial manner such as whether or not someone has the latest jeans for $95.

I believe this stimulates mature thinking. Military schools also promote academic success and reward good behavior by awarding accoutrements that can be worn on the uniform. I believe non-military style schools that wear uniforms can institute a similar program with a little bit of creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.

Simple it helps with discipline matters, it also help academically all of this has been proven with different studies. Another important reason is because some students can wear the Guess jeans, the Reebok shoes, etc. Other students can not afford these, so their classmates make fun of them and this causes problems in the classroom with teachers having to stop this. Uniforms are just a good idea in general.

Russia did this under communism I believe.
They use the lame excuse that it stop children from making fun of others that can not afford nice clothes. I not sure of this. Now they just be made fun of for causing everyone to wear uniforms.

Uniforms give us a sense of equality. Rich or poor, everyone wears the same clothes; there is no way for anyone to know who is rich, by merely looking at the uniform.
Uniforms are a sign to remember who we are (student, cadet, blah, blah). It is a sign of discipline, something which makes us united, something which looks really dumb, also gives us a sense of pride.

Because it maintains dicipline, it looks better & students are more focused on their studies rather than which pair of jeans to wear at school tomorrow, & who can look hotter than who.
