sometimes i see hearts or other wierd signs and i wanna know how i can type them to.i try copy and pasting but it dont work.ps.they are not pictures

It depends on the program you are using. For example, in an IM program, they allow you to define icons that are inserted inline into the text. For general purpose work processing type applications and some email systems, you can select characters from special fonts, such as WingDings font. You can use the Character Map accessory from the System Tools menu, or some applications (e.g. Word) have an Insert Character menu choice.

Note that for web applications (like yahoo answers) you can use HTML special codes to produce sort of an odd set of symbols that does happen to include hearts ♥ for example...and also ® ♣ ¼ ∑; π see the referenced page for the ones you can use.

Start > Run > Type in: charmap
A window will apear that list all the extra symbols like that. You can copy them and paste them into you typing, or if you leave your cursor on a symbol for a couple seconds, it will pop up a box with a key code you can type to get the symbol.
