What an odd question.... If someone is sincere in their compliments regarding another person... yes, you should stay quiet and not insult them by making a comment that will not make anyone, exept yourself, feel better.

It seems that if 'People blow their own trumpets,' then you are not happy about this. Yet of someone else 'blows it for them,' then you are not happy about that either!

Curious.

I'm curious because I've felt that too, but it was a long time ago. So I'm wondering how old you are! and whether you are in that so narrow emotional strait where 'nothing' can be right for you!

It might help you (a little!) if you can realise that no human being (well, there may be a few dotted about the world) can be right all of the time, and some of them who often are right, are generally only that right that often in their specialised fields.

I've know doctors who are really first rate as Doctors, yet fail abysmally outside the work place. Likewise, Psychiatrists who make lousy husbands / parents, 1st Class Pilots who are lousy parents / husbands. Military personnel who CAN NOT function without the Regulations they have within the Service ....and so on.

Unfortunately, People are first n foremost, human beings with all of the fragilities and error prone areas, the dumbness and blind spots of the creature known generally as 'Mankind.'

I also understand your desire, as it were, to right the wrongs you perceive, but maybe what you see is not the whole story. Truth is always matter of subjectivity ~ like 'one mans pleasure being another mans poison.'

By all means, correct errors where you see them, but be prepared for the consequences for you words / actions ~ which you may not like holding the responsibility for.

Regards.
Sash.

maybe they have a reason to blow their own horn that you don't know about. If you don't agree with them do the best thing. Remain quiet, smile and nod. It is not our place to judge how someone else feels towards another person. We should be all trying to get along with everyone and if someone is discussing something about someone that you don't agree with, Let it be.
Try to get along and understand the other persons feelings for them and respect their feelings.
