as iraqisx stated, it is not the true conservatives who are against due process. it's the neocons who are urging that.

However, he's very wrong about Liberals attempting to Undermine the 1st and second amendments. The neo Conservatives are going against the 1st, and the 2nd? a 5 day waiting period and a background check for a gun is hardly undermining. trying to Ban assault weapons (do you need an AK-47 to hut a deer?) is not against the 2nd amendment, it's for the lives of people.

That out of the way, the neocons want due process out of their way to gain power. they want to scare the American public, and gain power by casting themselves as the only ones who can protect us.

You got it wrong. The extreme right winged Conservatives like me are FOR the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. It's the Neo-Cons who want to create a Nazi state (all to fight terrorism, we are told).

Unfortunately, the Democrats are working to undermine the First and Second Amendments. They regularly attack anything that has religious significance, claiming that it violates some kind of separation of church and state. If this were the case, then government is the offender, not the church. Government has intruded into areas it has no Constitutional authority. And I don't think I even have to speak about their attempt to disarm the American people.

Don't ever confuse the Neo-Cons like Limbaugh, Tony Snow, William F. Buckley or Irving Kristol with Conservatives like Pat Buchanan. If you want to see the Conservative position, check out the John Birch Society at www.jbs.org.

FDR did NOT use such powers in WWII. Unless of course you are refering to the internment of Japansese Americans and that was wrong as well.

Why is it so hard to try someone for their crimes. Increase detention periods if needs be but to hold anyone without trial for years (and in secret military prisons abroad in many cases) isnt the America that I grew up learning about.

If we abandon the concepts that made America great then the terrorists have already one.

What they fight against is applying US laws and protections to non-US citizens. Taken to its ultimate conclusion, the idea that enemy soldiers are due the protections of the Constitution will have our soldiers reading Miranda in the middle of a fire-fight.

FDR himself used the same powers in ww2, Truman as well in Korea. Neither one of them was a right winger.
