I've never thrown a party other than a birthday one before. Also, this one is my first girl guy party and it's around 20 people. I'm throwing it with a good friend of mine. It's mainly 8th graders. My friend and I have already decided for there to be music, food, DDR, gift exchange, and poker. Is there anything else we can add to make sure that people don't get bored?

You mentioned gift exchange, but I'd do it like a yankee swap, where everyone brings a wrapped gift, you choose numbers and have the option of picking a wrapped gift or stealing someone who choose before you's gift. It's a lot of fun takes up time. I've seen it played different ways but I'm sure online you can find rules.
Other then that, it sounds like you already have a lot of things planned and that should be enough to keep everyone entertained. Other then that, play it by ear, parties never go as planned.
