My dad died when I was 13, so probably nothing... But we're getting my husband's dad a gift card to an autoparts place because he's a tinkerer... Loves to mess with stuff like that. Real thoughtful, eh???

oh god-I know exactly where you're coming from. dads are the worse to buy for! I went to my dad 2 days ago and said 'right tell me what you want, so I dont have to worry about saving receipts this year!' its kind of hard to explain but what I'm getting him is like a fancy drink dispenser. its better than it sounds! Its meant to hold alcoholic drinks. He wants one to put above the drinks cabinet-leaving his whiskey on a shelf isnt good enough for him! its really fancy and expensive looking but it only costs like €20...I'm really happy cus I know he wants it-decent present for once :D

I'm getting my dad a gift card to Cabela's. You can never go wrong with a gift card to a store your dad shops at all the time.

We got my dad a digital thermometer and a digital rain gauge with a self-dumping bucket thingie (I'm not sure what it's called). I also got him a stand-up mixer like he wanted. My daughters are also giving him a little bowl, cup, and plate with John Deere tractors on them (he loves those tractors).

I bought my dad hockey tickets in a section real close to the ice. they were about a hundred dollars for two tickets. Maybe if he likes sports you could get him tickets to a game, or concert tickets if he likes music.
