Usually you discuss this with your doctor at your 6 weeks visit after you deliver.

You can't get pregnant while you are pregnant, but you can get pregnant right after. Most birth controls are not suitable for breastfeeding mothers, so it would be condoms and spermicides while you were breast feeding. Otherwise, you should talk to your doctor towards the end of your pregnancy about what birth control method would be best for you. Your cousins might be 9 months apart, but she already had one baby before getting pregnant again, it's just not possible any other way! Good Luck!

Most doctors advise no sex until six weeks post natal. Then at that check up you get some type of contraceptives - your choosing usually.
Your body needs time to heal before you have sex. And, before you can start birth control. If your post birth bleeding has not stopped by the six week check up birth control pills will only make the bleeding worse. And, stop the healing.

I would think that a brand new crying baby would be enough birth control for me! But if you think you're going to be having sex so soon after having a baby, you'll need all the protection you can get! Go on the pill, use condoms.. whatever it takes!

If you aer breastfeeding you can start progesterone pills only at 6 weeks. You need time to heal after a vaginal birth so 6 weeks si a good length of time to wait.

Immediately after having your child. Normally you need healing time after you have the kid before you have sex again anyway...plenty of time to obtain some contraceptives.

As soon as you have your baby you should ask your doctor to put you on something, because it could take a little time for the birth control to take affect.
