Small planes!!! Trying to get to the next gig, fast, in bad weather, overloaded with equipment or people. Pilot and passengers doing drugs supposedly, (Ricky Nelson), .
In the case of John Denver...he went up by himself and didn't even have his pilot's licence yet.

This is probably a question that will never be answered. The only way to answer it would be to question the deceased and build up a list of events. However, there are many theories which suggest that they may not be deceased, although there is no evidence to prove this. Also, in the 50's and 60's many of the people who could afford to fly were rich, famous people which , in my opinion, increased the chances of a person likely to die in a plane crash to be a famous person.

It has to do with the law of averages. Back then, air travel was not as safe, and these people travelled extensively. John Denver was flying an experimental plane, and something went wrong.

it's a combination of many factors. small airplanes, bad weather, crazy pilots, overloaded planes, etc. plus the more you fly the more likely you'll end up crashing! just imagine.. if you flew a small cessna everyday for 20 years. there's gonna be at least a couple of emergencies every few years or so.

John Denver didn't die until the 90s, unfortunaltey his prophetic song "Leavin' on a Jet Plane" was incorrect as it was a propellor driven one.

Usually cheap hired small old one propeller planes that were
carrying to much weight in adverse weather conditions.
Nearly always were trying to get to next gig, drugs also had a baring on road transporting, the driver tired and drug and boozed up.

I think it just wasn't as safe to fly back then. It seems they were always in the little single engine prop planes that didn't have the navigation systems that todays planes have...you still hear about celebs dying in plane crashes(JFK Jr, Aaliyah) but just not as often...

Maybe it was that flying back then was not as safe as it is today.
Very few people, apart from the rich or famous, could afford to fly, and so I would assume that the unreliability of aircraft then would lead to more rich people and celebrities been killed in tragic accidents.

that is weird. maybe the planes sucked, but you would think that after a few of them died, pilots and people like that would've taken more precaution.
