What? that's a contraceptive? I put it on my PBJ sandwich! oops! :-)

Here's the info on the spermicide jelly:
Does it protect against STIs?

NO! Spermicide may protect against certain STIs including gonorrhea and chlamydia, but it does not protect against others, such as HIV and herpes.

Does it protect against pregnancy?
Yes.

What are the chances of getting pregnant while using spermicide?
Typical use: 26%

Perfect use: 6%

SO I WOULD SAY IT IS NOT RELIABLE..USE IT IN COMBINATION WITH SOMETHING ELSE (preferably a condom.)

Yes it works if you use it right. Here are some instructions. MUST BE USED IN CONJUCTION WITH A CONDOM. NOT TO BE USED ALONE.

Insert spermicide before any genital contact and repeat application if more than 15 minutes passes before intercourse.

Fill the applicator completely by attaching it to the tube and squeezing.

Insert the applicator deep into the vagina and push the plunger completely into the applicator. Use an additional application of jelly if intercourse is repeated.

Do not use spermicidal lubricant if vaginal irritation occurs. Do not use spermicidal lubricant with anal intercourse.

Hope this helps you.

The only 100% sure way of not getting pregnant is not having sex, I don't care if you use more than one kind of birth control at the same time, there is still that 1% chance of getting pregnant and/or contracting an STD.....

i always heard to use it along with a condom. but i personally dont like the jellies, they make things kinda rubbery down there and i lost alot of natural lubrication.

Not as reliable as say the sponge or condoms or even birth control. It just may not kill all the sperm.

I hear the foam is better. but they are meant to be used as a secondary form of birth control with your primary one (condoms, the pill).

If you use it alone then there is absolutly no chance of getting pregnant.

If you use it with someone else then there is a chance you may get pregnant.

If you use it with a condom and someone else then there is a reduced risk of getting pregnant.

Nothing is 100% effective. But the more protection you use, the better you'll be.
