In America, we do not normally use the word elder in reference to siblings. Any brother that is older than you is called an older brother, and the eldest is called the oldest. Elder is normally used in the sense of people who are elderly (senior citizens). As in having repect for your elders. The word is not that common here.

'elder' should be used in reference to the most immediate 'older' sibling. i.e if you have 2 or more brothers, the one that is immediatley older than you should be refered to as your 'elder' brother, and the others your 'older'.
