my english professor gives me compliments all the time on it. But my history professor cuts me down about it all the time. Does that make any sense?

Are you writing in active or passive voice? This only came up for me in history classes, not english, so that may be at least part of the issue. When you say that something was done, rather than that somebody did it, that's passive voice. You can set Word to tell you when you've got passive voice, (tools, options, spelling & grammar, grammar settings.) which I found the easiest way to make sure that I caught it. Fixing it can be harder, because you don't always know who the actor was, just that the action took place.

Of course, its quite possible that this isn't the issue at all and your history prof is just being picky or mean. Unfortunately, it does happen. I would try talking to the prof. Sometimes just showing that you're trying to fix the issues (even if they are all in their head) will get them off your back.

It's not really surprising at all. Professors are human too and there can be personality conflicts. Probably, it might be helpful to try to have a short conference with your history professor to find out what he thinks you could be doing to improve your work in that class. I found myself a difficult situation my freshman year of college and had to drop a class (35 years ago!) My psychology professor was a woman hater, and gay and he relentlessly picked on my roommate and me. Of course a lot of gay men really like women as friends, but there are some who do not. The boys in that class used used to sit in the 2 front rows, so this guy would notice them. My roommate and I both experienced the same kind of torture from him. He called me into his office after I failed an insignificant quiz and started screaming at me. There were 125 people in the class. I don't think college professors should be allowed to humiliate students in front of others in the classroom, but some of them do it. When you are of college age you should be treated with more respect than say a 12 year old.
Good luck and I hope you get this resolved.

Well, it makes sense because 2 people might have a completely different focus from each other; they each are looking at different aspects of your work.
Speak privately with the history teacher, tell him you want to earn A's from him, and how should you go about doing that? Teacher knows what he likes/doesn't, and enabling you to excell better be his #1 priority. Just ask, "I'm not happy with a C or B, I want an A. Where am I weak and what can you suggest for me to improve?" Keep in touch (face to face talking), use the teacher as YOUR helper. When you get those As, you'll be testimony to the teacher's abilities (in his eyes).

sopmetimes you can have an English professor who likes your writing because your subject matter is interesting but your grammar is not correct. Sometimes other professors demand that your writing be as exact as a report being presented on a subject. Probably your English professor is being overly kind and the others are trying to improve your writing and presentation.

The fine line between fact and fiction. In your writing in history refrain from making assumptions and stick to the facts, that should make your professor happy.

You are in lust! Love comes after dating awhile. You need to do nothing. Keep it to yourself. You are 18. Do not make excuses for what it is or what he is not. You must do nothing, He is your teacher. Let it be. To say how infatuated you are is true, true for a 18yr old..Keep busy, spend time with your friends, family. You will get over this..Do nothing foolish..You are not mature...You may wonder who am I tell lecture this way. Well I raised 3 children so I am not pulling these words out of thin air. You can get over this in time...Good Luck!

It could be your writing style. Do you have a creative style or technical style of writing? Ask your history professor what you can do to improve.

Perhaps you're not backing up your history essays with facts.

Or, perhaps, your history teacher has higher grammatical standards than your english teacher. It happens all of the time.

No, it doesn't make sense. Maybe, your history notes are wrong, and that could be making her/him angry
