Ronaldinho is nominated for FIFA World Player 06 and results will be known this 17/18 Dec 06. However, Brasilian coach Dunga commented that Ronnie is overated and not a team player.
Do you agree or do you think Dunga is clueless?

I agree with him, I think he is very over-rated. I mean don't get me wrong he is good but I don't think he is the best. I personally think people just because you can score well doesn't mean your great. Getting your team to score and working together makes you great. And he isn't a team player.

Keep in mind that Dunga and Ronaldinho are both "Gauchos", so in Dunga's mind it gives him even moreso the right to criticize Ronaldinho's performance.

An easy way to evaluate is: watch Ronaldinho Dentuco play for Barca, then watch most of the Brazil matches since 2002. Notice any difference? I sure do.

I'll give Ronaldinho credit that at least he apologized for his performance for Brazil on his website (emailed to all people subscribed), but to Dunga, he'll probably have to prove himself again.

Dunga has a strong work ethic, and he probably expects no less from his players. To complete the answer: Dunga isn't clueless.. the man started playing with some of the absolute best Brazil ever had past the great player era of the early/mid 60s, and captained the team to victory in 1994, although certainly not "jogo bonito" that win.

A) the ratings of players is highly subjective, but it is clear that Ronaldinho is a standout player for club and country

B) Dunga is an idiot for talking about it. Does anyone make their own players better by talking about them like that? Even if he preferred Zidane, too bad, Zidane will never be a Brazilian. If he's unhappy with Ronaldinho, then select someone else for the team- don't bad mouth him

coaches don't necessarily know what's best for their teams - that's why they get fired and replaced

I think Dunga is trying to get the best out of him, i think it's all mind games, Dunga knows the talent he has with Ronaldinho, and he wants that talent played on the national team especially for the upcoming Copa America tournament, and i dont think Dunga is clueless at all, he knows what he's doing, he's been around the game and knows how players act, so he's just not looking for superstars, he's looking for players who play from the heart, and i think he is challenging Ronaldinho, by saying what he has been saying as of late, he's getting inside his head, to bring the best player out of him once again......

I do not agree with Ronaldinho being overrated. People, Ronaldinho is one of the greatest players in the world and for anybody to say he is overrated or anything otherwise is not a fully functioning human being or just does not understand all of the ins and outs of our "futbol" (or as brits like to call it "the beautiful game"). What Dunga said exactly is that Brazil needs players who would wear the Brazilian Jersey with heart and pride. He thinks that Brazil needs players who will play the game with all of their desire. Players that will play all 90 minutes and do whatever is necessary to win and honor the Brazilian tradition. He does not feel that the stars who played on the team during the world cup are willing to do this. The reason is this: picture yourself being a soccer player at the international level. You have all kinds of sponsors, fans and of course money. You are currently playing on some of the greatest club teams of all time and you are a great player. In this case, you would naturally have to play so many games at different levels, including tournaments such as the World Cup. After your first or second World Cup in addition to all of the other international tournaments you have played your job begins to become a routine and you lose some of that initial awe that you had when you first started (Afterall, football is a job to these players like a day at the office is a job to you and me). You are naturally not going to do your job as well as you did it when you first started. I mean here you are at the pinnacle of your career and you have already proved to the world that you are worthy. Where do you go from here and why? What is the benefit to you? See....This is what happens to many of those stars.

My main case in point is Ronaldo. Yeah, I'm talking about Brazil's own fat fella. When he was young after going to World Cup '94 as a reserve player he became awe inspired by the glory that was winning the Cup. For the next few years he absolutely shined in Brazil and shortly after that he became king in Europe mainly in Italy and Spain where his moves were one of a kind. He was once named FIFA's greatest player in the world more than once like Ronaldinho but what happened to him today? I'll tell you what happened...he is the classic example of a player who has lost the absolute love of the game. He became desensitized to the underlying emotions evoked by soccer.

When Dunga stated Brazil needed new and more passionate players I fully agreed. The greats like Roberto Carlos, Zidane, Henry, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Figo, etc. are not to be trusted with such a prestigious undertaking as the World Cup and the national team because they can be risky. This is where the passion would come into play. That is the difference with football now and that of years past. The player's who play on their country's national team do not actually live or play in that country anymore. If they did, their allegiance would definitely be dedicated to their country. For this reason, Dunga wants Brazilian players who actually live and play in Brazil. If this is the case for the next World Cup then the selecao will surely come out on top with young and fresh players.

Hey. b4 i answer let me tell u something. I never liked Brazil. because i always thought they were overated> i never supported teams who always won everything. but when they lost in the quarters i gained a lot of respect for them and showed me the stupidness of my thoughts. Now on to Ronaldhino. If Ronaldhino was overated, then why does he keep winning awards, maneuvering through some of the best defences in the world, and scoring goals that would normally end up in the stands? Dunga is talking crap. He also said Stars are hurting Brazil. What rubbish! Dunga needs to be sacked. HE IS CLUELESS.
I'm From Trinidad and Tobago by the way.

He is being overrated right now though he was not just a few months ago. I definitely agree with Dunga that right now, Kaka would do a better job than Ronaldinho.

I have to agree with Mike B on this. Ronaldinho is a phenomenal player, but I think a coach knows whats best for his team!

Yes, because the level of soccer in the wolrd today is low. Come on, the guy would not even rank in an all-time Brazil 11, now would he? He's a very good player but to be great he has to perform much better in the next WC Finals than in Germany 2006.

Ronaldinho is genius...but he does lose the ball a lot. The last game on Tuesday was a great example...he has an amazing free kick, an amazing pass to set up a goal...and then plays the remainder of the game horribly. He does little for defense..so I honestly think it's neither right nor wrong to say he's overrated.
