It's a self contained unit, starts with a light switch and it won't work. Who fixes that a plumber, heating/cooling company? Any help?

heating/cooling is the most likely to have knowledge of fireplace. If you shut the pilot off for the summer. You need to see the owners manual for relighting it. There is a safety switch to make sure you want the unit lit. It seems a shame to pay $50 -$70 for a simple service call, if it is nit necessary.

There are companies that deal only in those type of fireplaces im sure they have their own install/repair guys

Call the Gas company..They will check it for free.
