Everyone is different - It takes a full year for the body to completely recover from any major surgery. I was fine in about three weeks; I had no complications and I had great help. If she has some help and time to rest she can be on her feet in no time.

This depends on the person having the surgery. With my first daughter born c-section, I was up and around on day 3 (on my own) and was fully functioning with no pain around week 2. My second daughter also born c-section, we had a party the day after I got home. Sure I wasn't the best hostess (stayed in my pj's the whole time) but I wasn't laid up on the couch. I tolerate pain very well though....
It is safe to say that your wife (or SO) will be in a good amount of pain for a few weeks if this is her first. You just don't know what to expect. A word to the wise...provide a small pillow for her to hold over her stomach/incision for the first few days. Any time she has to laugh or cough or sneeze...OMG! The pain is unreal. A pillow sort of helped me out...Good luck!

It took me a good 3 weeks before I was really up for moving around a lot. However my stomach was still tender and still is 6 months later.
