The cultures of Germany and France are so different. The French have the reputation of being a rude people; this is not a conscious effort to make visitors uncomfortable. In reality they are rude to each other. So expect that they won’t bend over backwards for you. Get a phrase book and learn some of them you would expect to use on a daily basses. If you expect to be treatment you will have a far better time.

Now for Germany: after WWII; when Germany was divided up for occupation by the United States, United Kingdom and Russia. The United States took the southern portion of Germany. Basically I was treated better in the areas other then the major U.S. occupied areas. I lived on a small USAF base in northern Germany for two years and we were treated very well, but they didn’t like the British or the major occupation force in the area and vice versa in the other areas of Germany. Other then that Germany is a beautiful country. Just think a building here that reaches one-hundred years is considered historical, in Germany it would still be considered as a new building.

As a side note if you visit a McDonalds, they will accept US Currency and when I was there the exchange rate was at times very good for us.

Have a great trip!

i would say be familiar with the history so u can make a list of what u r going to visit be it historical stuff like the gateway to the roman empire in trier or the conzentrationcamps like dachau ( i would definately reccomend this cos u can never imagine it if u havn't seen it) u will never ever forget those, or the castles, which along the rhine and mosel u can find a lot of. neuschwanstein and eltz castles would be great ones to go see. also when u r in germany u can go see luxemburg, belgium, holland, france all within a few hrs

Bring a warm jacket. It's usually cold and wet during winter.
