My son is starting to refuse his baby food and cereal because he knows at the end of the meal he gets the Gerber Puffs and toast, which he wants. Neither is very nutritious, but he is very eager to eat them. (BTW - those puffs have 25 calories per 80 puffs!!! A great training food maybe, but no calories for a little one who maybe gets 15 in the mouth!!) What are some other foods that he can use his fingers on that are more nutritious? I am particuarly interested in protein sources considering he doesn't take much breastmilk/formula these days either. THANKS GUYS!!

although at 8 months old my daughter didnt have her back teeth for chewing, she liked to eat squishy things like bananas that she could use her gums on, she also like the cooked pasta that she could hold, green beans, cheerios and she even liked bread...every baby has a different taste but like ur son, she loved the fruit puffs! hope u find what ur lookin for =]

anything that he can pick up with his fingers.. this will help him refine control of pincer grasp..

main thing is to not give foods that are a choking hazard.. grapes, hotdogs, popcorn

start with foods that can dissolve easily.. cheerios and rice puffs are great

then add soft cooked and cut up veggies, like carrots, green beans or peas

soft cooked pasta is great, too, lots of enriched varieties.. alittle sauce or plain

and protein.. cubed meat works well too

i would stay away from Cheetos and chips.. that is not good nutrition for a baby (much less an adult)

its best to add one new food each week, so you can watch for allergies.. if you give your son several new foods at once you won't know which one cause the reaction

no peanut butter or honey, please, this are not good for kiddos under 1

even though kiddos (of all ages) seem to pick at their food and hardly eat anything, their bodies know what they need and if healthy choices are offered several times a day, your child will get what he needs.. kiddos go through stages of rapid growth and lots of eating.. then stages of rest where they seem to not eat.. your son should be fine with what he eats, but if your still concerned, talk to your pediatrician

oh, and have fun and enjoy this age!! before you know it he will be 8-years old!!

Have you seen the dried fruit made by (maybe) Gerber? My boys love those things! I also cut up bananas (make sure they aren't round) and they liked those. Ritz crackers were a hit too although they aren't the most nutritious.

Diced cooked carrots, cooked pasta are some other options.

At 8 months previous and a couple of tooth, i could commence giving her eco-friendly beans, carrots and peas. i would not complication too a lot approximately paying for the Gerber type, it relatively is purely an high priced jar. purchase the Wal-Mart type individual cups. they arrive 4 in a p.c... purely like fruit cups. it relatively is yet another element you provides you. Fruit cups of peaches, apples and pears. once I first began giving my toddler those meals, i could p.c.. a veggie and a fruit. i would not even use the full cup. It became right into a extreme-high quality snack too. The teething buscuits i became into alwasy terrified of. as quickly as they have tooth, they could bite off a bite and get choked. Now that she has tooth, i could quit making use of those.

Give him green beans or carrots. It's ok for him to use his fingers for eating these foods that are normally used with a spoon or fork.

Marshmallows
Bananas
Toast
BAKED chips (Cheetos Baked Cheese Puffs do well)
Dry cereal (You'll be surprised!)

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head...

If you stop feeding him the crap stuff and he'll have no choice but to eat the nutritious stuff when he's hungry. Cooked carrot sticks, cucumber, soft fresh fruits...he'll pooh-pooh them at first, but he will eat once he gets hungry enough.
