How is doing the right thing harder in the short term and easy in the long term ?

This was a bellringer in my theatre class, and I had the hardest time answering it. Can I get some opinions ?

Because doing the right thing sometimes hurts, and it bothers you more in the beginning. Over you time you accept it better and eventually realize that in the long run, you were better off doing the right thing.
