People have been telling me that even if your university performance wasnt good enough, the interviewers mostly look at the way we present ourselves and our command over english language. Do you think this is true?

YES!!!! First thing I look at is the resumee. I expect it to be perfect!!! You would be amazed at how many ppl will come to an interview with all kinds of mistakes on their resumee (even ones who had stellar college careers) if the can't take the time to get a good resumee then what makes me think that they will do a good job for me. Also I look at the way the are dressed. I work in an environment where ppl should be dressed professionally and therefor that is how they should arrive at the interview. Next allow your perspective boss to contact ex employers and tell them how you did on the job. In my state by law the only thing I am allowed to ask of an ex employer is if that individual is rehireable or not, but if I have an interviewee who offers to let me collect more info from previous employers I note that 1: they take initiative and 2: the must have a great employment history. Lastly I will tell you to be honest I would rather hire someone who has experience over high education, but it is hard to find someone with experience without education. Good Luck

Interviewers should be looking for 2 things - your ability to handle the job and your ability to get along with the people who already work in the company.
Unfortunately, these are things that won't really say if the person is going to be successful in the position. You can have abiltiy for days and a wonderful compatible personality forever and still not work out in a particular position.
Something that I think is a shame - use of credit history for any position that does not have to do with finance or money handling. Employers are using the excuse that regardless of whether you will be dealing with money matters or not, credit history can show your responsibility level when the truth is in most cases it's just another way they use to reduce the applicant pool.
Credit histoty problems can be caused by irresponsible behavior but in most cases it's the product of other factors at lot of which were out of your control so how fair is it that we are judged with this criteria? But life is not fair.
The reality is that it's a buyers/employer's market/world and we just have to deal with it as best we can believiing that the job that is for you will be the one you get. And if the one you didn't get was the one you thought you wanted the most, well maybe there were some things that were wrong for you there.
You can not let it get you down because a lot of the process is about your attitutde and a defeated outlook can be seen.
God Bless!

Absolutely true.

Grades are important, but most job interviewers are more interested if you got the degree and what classes you took. It is true, if they ask to see your transcript and there are lots of C's and D's, that might be a problem. But, some interviewers don't even ask, they just want proof the degree.

You are also correct that much of the interview process is how you present yourself. You will do well if you are...
- Confident, but not arrogant
- Able to think quickly and answer "how would you handle this..." type of questions effectively
- Appear well put together and able to communicate effectively verbally
- Friendly and respectful
- And, you have the skills and mentality suited to the job.

They are definately looking for how you present yourself as well as other things. Self confidence and great dress will definately help you out. It is also a plus if you are familiar with the organization you have applied. It is always a plus in an interview to show that you are aware of the business you are applying. (not just the type of business, but THEIR particular business).

They look for smartness, the dress you wear, quick answer to any question they put, even it may be wrong, above all a good command over English, and activeness
