1moe4u....RPM is Revolutions Per Minute, not hour.

If the car is automatic and the car didn't come with one........its okay, to keep an eye on things, you know?

If the car is automatic and it already has one on the dash...........then its just playing dumb or ricer or retarded.

It's just clever marketing by the auto industry! It serves absolutely no purpose with an automatic transmission!

"Tach's" are a good way to keep "an eye" on your "drive-train" to ensure that each component is working "in-sync" with each other.
The "Tach" measures "RPM's"(Revolutions Per Hour) on the engine.
Even with an "automatic-trans" it is a good idea to know how and when your engine's "rev'n"(torque) to "shift" your transmission. It saves "wear-n-tear," fuel, and prolongs the life of your vehicle, when it is at its proper level(tuned-up).

Good question. I have a Plymouth Voyager that has one. The only thing I can think of is that they must have ordered too many of them, and they have to get rid of them.
