i need help on solving these algebraic expressions.. ??

Question

find the values of x and y that ensure each quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
3x+17=2y

4x-y=y



and the second problem..


(x-5)=(2y+12)


(1/2)x=2y-15




i know you use substitution to solve the equations.. but i dont remember how. HELP PLEASE!!
