If the CD is scratched on the plastic side (the mirrored side) then you can use a CD Doctor or any CD Repair tool.
If the CD is scratched on the label side (and you can see through it), there is nothing you can do, you will have to replace it

If you go to your local Walmart or Target you can buy its to repair scratches in CDs or DVDs. Basically they "repolish" the surface of the disc. They work OK, but I would only use theam as a last resort, and then once you've repolished the CD, make sure to mae a bacup copy. They cost about 20 to 40 dollars, so they are a little pricey to just fix one CD or DVD, but if you have a lot of disks to repair, the price can be offset by what it would cost to replace the disks. I put a link to one at Target (not an endorsement of Target) below.

first of all, its not advisable to rub an alcohol on the CD. it might destroy the memory and it will not work right and light it with a flame its very very dangerous. just buy a scratch remover in you nearest computer store or ask the computer store for an info. next time, avoid the CD from scratches, in this time buying CD is very expensive....

Well what I used to do was take a fine cloth and a little bit of toothpaste and rub it all over. Shine it up. Leave it for awhile. Then it should work. Tons of people I know do this. You might have to repeat it a few times though. Essentially is fills in the scratches and hardens enough for the disk player to just "slide" over those parts.

if it's not deep scratches, take a lighter and run the flame quickly and lightly under the cd, right where the scratches are... this will melt the plastic back together and it will play....
just don't hold it in one place too long or you will melt the entire way through... and ruin the cd...
