Depends on the laptop. In most cases RAM can be upgraded and in many laptops it is easy to do yourself. (make sure that opening the laptop does not void your warranty ) Graphic cards in most laptops are built onto the motherboard and there are no slots to put another one in, so the answer to that part of your question is in general terms no. But check with the manufacturer you may have a model that is an exception.

You probably can't change the graphics card - it's usually built into the motheboard.
As for RAM - it depends on the laptop. There is usually a small removeable section on the base into which you can insert different RAM chips. There almost certainly won't be a spare socket so to take it from 512 to 1Gig, you'll probably have to buy 1Gig of RAM and bin the existing chips.

If you mean remove and replace for both RAM and a GRAPHICS then you definitely can. To know how go to the following sites,
www.howstuffworks.com and Click on Computer Stuff.Scroll down to the appropiate link or links. Also go to
www.kenyada.com and Click on Building your own computer. There you will read instructions and see illustrations in a step by step procedure. Finally in your computer there isv a pre-installed Owners Manual and under Ststem Information you will be able to see the relevant links.

Yes you can with RAM. With graphics i'm pretty sure you can. If the graphics card is not on the motherboard you can not do that. If the graphics card is hooked up to the motherboard you can upgrade this.

you can update the software ( driver that helps the operation system communicate with ) and also upgrade the actual graphic card or ram ( the actual hardware) for this you will need to actually open the laptop and then exchange the needed hardware
