I've been to Jamaica and it was wonderful...Ochoa Rios was a stop on a Carribean cruise that I took and I liked it so much that my fiance and I are going to get married next June in Negril.
The weather in Jamaica is pretty much the same year round...that is an effect of being an island the water keeping the weather constant.
Also, use your head when out and about. As a whole Jamaica is a VERY poor country. Think of a very poor neighborhood in your area and ask yourself if you would feel safe wandering around, drunk, with lots of money stuffed in your pockets. I bet you would say no...so...don't fore go Jamaica, just use common sense. Stay on resort grounds or at established tourists places at night. Keep your wits about you...if you want to smashing drunk--great--just do it at your resort.
Enjoy your vacation, be safe and have fun.

We just got back home last week.It was incredible. The people there are so nice. They do everything to make you happy. It helps to tip a little but it is'nt necessary. If you go into town to shop be sure to do it early. That does get a little scarey after 6:00.Riu Ochos Rio is the place to stay.Definately go to Dunns Waterfall and snorkel.Ask for a bartender Gregory,He will help get you a taxi or anything you need.He is usually at the bar across from the stage.Go to the Gem Palace and ask for Vinny on Main street,They have beautiful jewelry at a great price.

i have not personally gone to there but my sister has, it is okay if you stay in the tourist section, and NEVER GO OUT AT NIGHT!! If you go out at night by yourself or even with people you had better make sure that there is a bodygaurd for yoy there. At night all the bad poeple come out. Alot of tourist get robed or even beaten to an inch of there lives at night. I know this sounds scarry but still go you can still have a lot of fun and be safe just stay in the tourist section and if you have to go out at night hirer you a body gaurd from Jamiaca they are really cheap and they keep all of the rift raft away from you.
