Anyone who is trying to establish your identity may ask for your drivers license. Perhaps if you gave more details I could give you a better answer. I don't know about the "legal" part of it but if you refuse to show your DL for example when writing a check, the merchant can refuse the check as a form of payment. If you refuse to show it at a club or bar the bartender can refuse to sell you a drink. I don't think you HAVE to show it to anyone, but if you don't show it you will have to suffer the consequences.

Technically - only a law enforcement officer or court official can demand to see your driver's license.
However - merchants and other people can request to see your driver's license. It is your option to show it to them in this case. However - if you refuse it is their option to refuse to do business with you.
So if you refuse to show your driver's license they are perfectly in their rights to refuse to sell you that product or to refuse to accept your check.

basicly any kind of law informent person has the right to ask you for id or manager or bartender for age reasons so basicly anyone thats manager or law inforced person can ask. anyone should know that.
