There is no fasting before Christmas. I think you mean Lent,Easter which is in either March or April depending on the papal calender. It is fasting for 40 days. Christmas is the birth of Christ and Easter is when he dies and is resurrected on the third day (Easter Sunday).

was juct at church this weekend and the father was quite adament about it....the 4 weeks before christams is called advent..thsi is the preperation of the coming of Christ
Lent is the 40 days before easter where we sacricfice things in preperation of the second coming of Christ
