I think its so sad. But if I had to die, I would want to do it while trying to save my family, and he did. He will always be a hero to his children, though I am quite sure they would rather have him here. I think the world could use more people like him. May he rest in peace knowing that his family is now safe.

No disrespect, because I feel terrible for the family that this wasn't a happy ending. He should not have left. Wandering in the wilderness is not the way to get help. He is a hero in that he really tried, but I would never split up my party if we were lost and stranded. They had the better idea of burning tires and what not.

I can't believe such a horrible thing happened to him. Even though I'm vehemently against privacy violation like GPS and OnStar, I can see how having that could have prevented this all together. I personally enjoy my privacy and fought forever with my parents about how I didn't want a cell phone. But it's times like these that make me think what a benefit it would be if we all were capable of affording that type of technology. I believe he's in heaven looking down on his family right now and I wish his family comfort and strength in this difficult time.

Definitely a tragic, inspiring story. I saw a similar one with a happier ending on one of the Discovery-type channels. A father and son were rafting in Alaska when their raft capsized. They lost just about everything in the river. To make a long story short, the son left the father to get help. They were rescued about 4 days later. No food, no water, only a lighter and a knife.

you know you always here about stories like that but you never think it would ever happen to you, but i've watched james kim for a while now on cnet , he was just this person i used to watch online and to find out that this man went missing??? and made the news too! it really did hit me that this could truly happen to anyone, no one would have imagiend that something like that would happen to someone you "knew" before hand, even if something like this ever happens to some celeb. they will always just be celebs you know it doesn't really hit you. but with him, i was honesly quite sad and had shed a few tears, to see that he will never be reviewing anything again....
and the way he died is just horrible! i mean when you just stand outside in the cold weather for a bit and you feel like you're freezing to death, but this man did actually!!! and i wouldn't be able to imagine the pain!!

oh goodness!

i just wish he was too numb to feel any pain (you know how you get numb from the cold..)

may he rest in peace

The human notion to protect ones own family often overrides sound judgement and the circumstances therein often supersede the normal thought processes. To seek help is more powerful than the stay and wait approach. When you wait,It seems you are doing nothing to help yourself, when in fact, the opposite is true.He chose to seek help in a very bad environment without due regard for his own safety, but soley for the benefit of his loved ones.He forgot the one rule we should all remember. Think of your chances of getting help entirely on the environment around you.Regardless, this man undertook a mission of mercy and paid the ultimate price. In that fact, he is a hero.

I think ,unless you live along interstate 10 you should have winter emergency stuff in your car! a blanket $4 from goodwill, plastic gallon milk jug filled with water free,$5 or $10 worth of beef jerky a can of nuts and some candy bars and a CB radio-a good percentage of HIGHWAY PATROL and SHERIFF cars have them to spy on truckers -city cops not so much

The whole story breaks my heart. I was praying that they would find him alive and well.... He tried so hard to find help for his family. Both he and his wife tried. I wish peace for the family. It's such a tragic story.
