A warrior is mainly a defensive character. In a group, the warrior would act as the "tank". He attracts the enemies to attack him and holds their attention while the rest of the party fires at them over his shoulder. He is not as equipped to do a lot of damage, but he can take it like no other.
A hunter is a Ranged DPS (Damage Per Second) specialist. He can do a fairly impressive amount of damage from a distance. He is not as powerful up close, but he can kill you if he is far away. To help him, the hunter can tame beasts as pets who will act as "tanks", keeping the enemies at a distance so that the hunter can shoot at them from afar. A pet is not as good a tank as a warrior but they are good enough to help a hunter who is operating solo.
Warriors are good if you intend to group with others, most groups need at least one warrior in order to succeed. A hunter is good if you tend to go solo. With his pet, a hunter is almost like two characters in one.

hi anna. i'm glad that people nowadays still plays hunter. im so happy.. prepare to read my long long ans.
i myself started out as a hunter, but a tauren one :P and it juz so happen i got a gnome warrior in another server, so basically i can tell u everything abt hunters and warriors.
so ans to ur 1st part of Q, u want to know abt hunters, i shall tell u some basics rules of being a hunter.
when u get to lvl 10, there will be a quest given to you, to tame a pet. after u complete the Q, u can now tame other wild beast all around azeroth. of cuz, some beast cannnot be tamed like zebra, girrafe. (hope i got tat spelling rite) but basically, all 95% of the beast can be tamed. some beast are superior than the other in terms of health points, dmg or armor. like cats, they have high damage and can stealth. bears, have high health points and crabs, turtles have high armor. u can have 3 pets, but you cant bring them all out at the same time, you can only have one active pet by ur side at any one time. u need to have a stable to stable ur extra pets and depending on situation, choose the type of pet u need to use. thats the basic about pets, go to http://www.bookofwarcraft.com/guides/class/hunter/pet-skills.htm for more.
another basic of hunter, ALWAYS use ur hunter's mark. put it in ur hotkey number 1. whenever u target a mob, 1st thing u do, mark it. not only it adds dmg, but it also help u distinguish which to kill 1st(if there is more then one mob) if u r in a group. if u are in a pvp server, it is very likely, well, definately that one day u r gonna get backstab by a rogue. don be afraid, mark the rogue, and he has nowhere to run. a hunter can never lose to a rogue unless u really suck or the rogue is really too damn pro. mark's mark help by not allowing rogue or druids to go stealth and come back to ambush you, thus it will give them a sense of 'death'. not only to rogue and druids, but also to other classes. if u don believe me, hunter's mark an enemy and see wat he do. he will start to look around and panic, lol.
3rd, make good use of ur tracking ability. we hunters can track almost everything, except for bugs. yes, when ur lvl goes higher, u can track undead, dragonkin, well...everything. its very good while u r questing cuz u can track that particular type of mob, saves time, energy and allows u to avoid dangerous places where there are too many mobs. in most of the time, keep ur tracking humaniod on so u can see whether or not a player is coming near you so u can prepare to fight. (or ambush other player)
4th. a good hunter is a hunter who nv gets hit ( well, try not to get hit) whenever u fight a mob, make good use of ur pet. let them get the initial aggro, wait for a while, den attk, u will find it very easy to kill mobs at ur lvl, even 2-4 lvl higher wont be a problem, or even an elite at ur lvl. make sure they really hate ur pet, den dmg them, make good use of ur feign death too, its aggro wipe ability. always place a freezing trap at ur feet so if ur feign death fails, the mobs wil get trap or catch any sneaky rogues that try to backstab you :P as that says, when u rest, drink water or eating food, always put a trap b4 u do so. its always good to be safe den sorry. i've catch more then 20 sneaky rogues in my entire hunter life when i was drinking water using this method.
5th. lvling up. perosnally, i would strongly suggest tat you go for beast mastery 1st. u may be able to choose ur talents once u reach lvl 10. go for beast mastery, grab a good pet, u can solo 3, or even 4 mobs which is ur lvl . if any way, if u think u cant fight them all, leave ur pet there to fight the mobs and run away, until ur pet is too far from you and disappear. but don worry, its not gone. juz call it outm it will be out again. but b4 u do that, make sure u are out of combat, meaning the mobs aint chasing you. simply to this by feign death after ur pet is far from you. opps sorry i got out of point. beast mastery is very good for PVE, meaning when u go questing or going into dungeons because they can sometime tank additional mobs or grab aggro off from healers or from urself. however, you u are lvl 55-60, u can start considering respeccing to marksman/survival beucase this is when u start going to battlegrounds and going tohigh lvl instances. this is where u need ur dps to be high now because normally in high lvl instances, it is wise to keep ur pet away.
as for ur 2nd Q, hunter vs warriors. skill wise, i would say a warrior really needs more kill then a hunter. a warrior has 3 stances to switch around and it is quite tedious. when in a dungeon, a warrior's job is very impt, keep the mobs away from you guys. one mistake could cause the team to wipe, while a hunter job is juz to dps, or sometimes pull. however, if u ever go to big raids like 40 man or 20man, a hunter is as impt as a warrior because we are the one's who mark and pull the mobds to the tanks.
dmg wise, a hunter has definately more dps then a warrior. warrior needs rage to use skills and rage points doesnt come along easily UNLESS 1st, ur the tank where u always gets hit to gain rage points or 2ndly, ur a fury 2dual-wield warrior where u hit so fast ur rage generate in no time. but either way, a hunter's dps is sure to out-do that of a warrior. this is wat i do with my hunter when i go raids. serpernt sting-->aimed shot-->multishot-->auto shot-->aimshot and so on. rapid fire has got only 5 min cooldown, so keep using it.
i hope it ans ur Q, if u have any other problem or question at all, email me at sulaji84@yahoo.com.sg
i'll be glad to help.
