I think the native Americans should be declared the 51st state, a virtual state without a common border. The combined nations should have two senators in DC as their own and representatives in the house in proportion to their population.

I don't know about the Native Americans in your neck of the woods, but a lot of ours here in Minnesota are becoming extremely wealthy do to their casino's. I love seeing it, because the reservations were becoming so run down, before they had the access to building casino's. Now the ones with the biggest casino's are becoming the nicest neighborhoods in Minnesota.

They also are an equal opportunity employer (even though they are a sovereign nation) and hire anyone who wants to work in their casino's.

Morally, you may be right . However, it's an old and long-dead issue !! We resolved that issue and the tribes agreed, when Native Americans were given many 'special' rights, that other Americans do not enjoy !!

P.S. - I lived on a reservation for a couple of years . And sad to say, they weren't the 'earthly environmentalists' that I expected !!
Like the comedian Chris Rock said to his 'black' brethren, .. " I understand being poor and unemployed, but does that mean that you must have a garbage-filled yard !?!? And if you're unemployed, doesn't that mean you have lots of time to clean-up your yard, and throw a coat of paint on your house !?!?!?

No land should change hands until ALL tribal bands sit down together and come to a agreement suitable for all.As for stabilization read about the Oka crisis, and the incidents in the Caladon area in Ontario(This is after the 10 billion dallars we give them yearly)I can't see why any first nations people would object to more freebee"s , Its not like they pay tax for anything, but grumble about anything that the rest of the tax payers get.The best part is the natives do have a legit claim for getting squeezed by big buissness as the fed government does nothing and dumps it on the provinces(your state level). Have fun with this one yanks your going to need it.

I am a American first & native american second. I am very proud of my 1/5 Crow blood. We just want what the goverment promised us in the treaties signed. We did not sign to get our own nation but to be excepted as full Americans. I believe their is room to make things between us better but it will take working together . Our own sovereign state is not part of the problem .

The American Indian is a sovereign nation within the confines of the United states. They should not just have one state. They should live where they want to anywhere they want to as well as any other American. It would serve no purpose to have a separate state.

The current reservation is considered a sovereign state. It is exempt from many state laws. And often issues its own license plates for vehicles. It is still subject to most federal laws.

It's a little harder than that. You can't just give land to somebody; most of the land in the US is occupied. And this is based on the idea that they still hold many of their own qualities; what use, besides a large house, can you do with land? There is no straight answer with this issue, and I doubt there ever will be.
