mine are just fine.. we get along quite well..

they live 4 hrs away.. and even if they were closer

that would be cool :)

i don't understand how so many people have problems.. they except their familys craziness.. but not very excepting of their partners cause they are the "in-laws"

i think if people considered them their family... instead of in laws it might make the situation easier to cope with

Oh, I am sorry. That must be really hard. My partner's family is nice. She was lucky in that department and I am lucky because I don't have a family so I inherited them. :)

I kinda like mine, but they rarely intrude. I'm lucky if I see them in fact.

personally, i like them, however, my husband doesn't like them very much and they are HIS family!!

the thing is, his mother is very self-centered and his sister is a whack-job. his dad is kind of floating out in space with his new wife and her family, so he isn't very abundant with the love. his grandparents are so senile that granny puts salt instead of sugar in recipes and gets my husband's name wrong most of the time!

for example:
we went home for thanksgiving. we just had our first baby and so, it was the 4th grandchild for my parents, but his parent's first. he called his mom a few times a day for about 3 days straight trying to figure out plans for thanksgiving day. she didn't call him back until the day before thanksgiving!!! we thought she would have been a little more excited to see her grandchild. then, we went over to visit thanksgiving eve and instead of spending time with us she spent time in the kitchen bitching about thanksgiving and her cat that's dying. sure, that's sad, but this is YOUR FIRST GRANDCHILD!!!

anywhooo, then, there is his sister. wow. total nut job. seriously, i've met a lot of people in my life, but i've never met someone who i truly think is certifiable crazy!! she laughs to herself all the time, which is kind of creepy and then you wonder is she secretly laughing about you??? she told my husband that i was cheating on him (not a chance!) when we first started dating. she read a bunch of his text messages in his phone and then tried to say that i was texting HER and calling her a liar!!
sometimes she is nice and funny, sometimes she is scary and mean.

i feel so bad for my husband b/c his family sucks and i can just tell that it makes him sad. the only consolation was that we stayed with my parents and they, of course, have welcomed him into our family with open arms.
the worst of it??? his family never even offered for us to stay with them! my parents had 8 adults and 4 kids at their house with one shower and we made it work and had a great time, but even knowing this, his family never offered a room for us to stay in. his mom has a large house and it's just her and her boyfriend.

so, yeah, i kinda hate them, but they're family, so i love them for who they are and i hope that someday, maybe, things will be better.

oh, and another nice thing....
after the baby was born....my mom traveled 10 hours to help out and stayed for 2 weeks (love her!). my sister traveled 5 hours and visited for the weekend.
not one person from my husband's family has come to visit and we invite them all the time.
