You will not get the answers you want asking a question like this. Americans feel it is a God given right to bare arms, and because of their history, guns have been a necessity. Here in Canada, if you want to own a gun, you can, it is just that our history hasn't included the conflicts our neighbour's have had and as such, we do not feel the need to own guns for protection. Call us naive, call us what you will but Canada has answered the call to arms in every major conflict since our founding and will continue to do so. I served in our military, as my father and grandfather before me, our 20 year old son has 5 years in the reserves at this point and has volunteered to go to Afghanistan. But there are no guns in our home, never will be unless another war breaks out on our soil. I have the utmost confidence in our police and military to protect me and my family and do not feel the need to hunt but at the same time, have no problem with those that do. You want to drive a car, take a test, get a license. If you want to own a gun, take a test, get a license. The problem with that is????

I'm in the US, and I do believe in stricter gun laws to a degree. In the sense that stricter criteria should be met, and those purchasing guns should be screened more thoroughly. But what the true crux of the issue is, whether you are in the US, Canada, or anywhere else for that matter, guns are most dangerous in the hands of criminals, and I have heard of very few criminals purchasing guns legally! So it's a dilemma! So I suppose, if I came up against a criminal with an illegal firearm, I might feel a bit safer with my own registered gun! But I'm holding out as long as I can!

Let's put it this way, guns are only good for one thing, kill, yes it's true that if the guy next to you in the bus carries a gun and you don't you loose, I'm an American and I don't carry a gun, true that you can shot someone and you save your life but then they dump you in a prison for the rest of your life, so there is no way to win, better stay away from guns, Canadians are doing real good..âº
