We knew we could kick Iraq's **** pretty easily. A war with China would plunge the world into war and cost millions of lives.
If you're a bully, do you pick on someone who can fight back and possibly beat you or do you kick the butt of the most annoying little guy you can find?

Several reasons, actually. Iraq is weaker than China, and that's excluding the old saying, "there's strength in numbers" because that alone makes China a force to be reckoned with. Second, China is in dip. relations because he has so much to offer. Iraq, on the other hand, has little to offer, plus they say that China is slowly becoming more capitalist, so they're gonna be doing more trade as time goes by. Finally, there is no real Chinese attack that I can think of that has been aimed at the United States, so they aren't too concerned; Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, tried to kill George H. W. Bush, which equals added incentive.

One way to understand this may be to study the economics of both China and Iraq. China is a growing market and the US sees an opportunity there to sell our goods. Iraq is in a stategic location because of the area market selling oil.
For another thing, the Chinese did not sponsor terrorist training for people planning the Sept 11 attacks in the USA.
The United Nations was documenting Saddam's offenses with missappropriated funds (like $ for food going into building his palaces instead) and taunts of weapons illegal there after the Gulf War defeat.
China is not the only country of concern for its people's civil rights or ruled by a dictator. Look at several African countries, and the new "Hitler" of Iran who denies the 1940s holocast and wants to give it a try himself . But one country is not able to spread itself too thin trying to resolve all oppression issues in all other countries.

Take a flight to China and see how it has changed. The way living standards have be raised, where cities are filled with BMWs, branded goods and Chinese tourist are flocking worldwide for business trips and money to spend. Read Forbes and realize how many billionaires have come out of China, then make a judgement on how China is now.
While you are lamenting the fact that China invades and oppresses, remember how America got its lands.
While you accuse China of selling weapons to Saddam Hussien, American has given many weapons to IRAQ to fight IRAN, ISREAL to fight Afganistan and Lebanon. God knows how many weapons have been given by America to countries to fight other countries that America dosen't like.
Remember there are not many allies and a righteous countries. Every country is just looking out for their own benefit and well-being. Politics, power and money go hand in hand in a globalised world where humans are greedy and wasteful and self centered.

there are two very good reasons for this depending on who you beleive, but this is just jist on things.
Iraq was a personal thing for Bush coz his dad screwed up the first time, also Iraq is rich in OIL and this was a war about control on oil. if saddam had cut his oil to the west the petrol prices would rocket, and as far as China are concern, with North Korea with a nuclear arson America and the UK are crapping themselves coz the Mad Kim IS mad enough to use them so NATO, America and the UK will not risk going in so WILL need China to keep them in check. and dont be surprised if China are a superpower in the next few years overtaking America

Excellent question........!
Yes, you have made a valid point. Did USA stop to think this anamoly?
My answer to you is this: Trade. Money. Oil.
On one hand, China's trade imbalance and the surplus they have built up is enormous to some astronomical proportions. USA helped to large extent for this to happen. It is not political, it is all business.
Though I would hasten to think that the Iraq war is NOT about the oil (USA has plenty of it, they do not need to invade for oil), I think it is all about instability in the region which threatens the very security of the nation as a whole.
Therefore, they are independant of each other and it is not about democracy or dictatorship.

The simple facts are that China has been moving towards a more Democratic society and Saddam had no intention of doing it. We do counter any Chinese efforts to destroy Democracy. Sometimes, like in the cold war with Russia, we need to take different approaches to achieve the same goal. The more freedom that the Chinese people get , the more that they will demand. Hopefully over time the people of China will decide their own direction. When you have crazy dictators , it takes a radical move to remove them. When you have a cultural war with China , time is the only ally of victory.

Every diplomatic option that was feasible was attempted with Saddam and failed. Saddam was defiant and posed a threat.
By no means does the US just give China a get out of jail free card. The US continually tries to influence China where human rights issues are concerned.
I find it amazing that there are people that throw it up that we didn't do enough diplomatically with Saddam yet question our attempt at dealing with countries like China in a diplomatic way.
Can't win can we with people like you.

Gives Christmas a whole new perspective, how gift giving in some of the worst way's , have made their way into politics and shamefully so. Is there nothing sacred left in this land and Is it always christmas at the white house.
