It sounds like it wants to turn over but then there is a knocking sound and won't turn over. Its never been in these cold temperatures- the car is from Texas/North Carolina.

A new battery and oil change will do miracles for your car. It is just a machine..does not matter if it comes from Texas or Iceland..it will not start if juice is not flowing when you turn it on. You can also look into getting one 0f those car blankets and that will help it stay out of the winds while you are sleeping. Also..try parking your car in the opposite direction or other side of the building..but a garage is a luxery I finally have and I do love that!

here's what you need to do in order to get your car going.
#1. change your oil you probaly need a thinner oil (see your mechanic) cold temp. make some blends of oil a little thick.

#2. Check your battery, if it's the same one then you need to get one for cold weather starting.

#3. If there is no warmer installed (that's to keep your oil warm) you should have one installed and plug it in every night.

So basically talk to your mechanic and he'll let you know what you need to keep your car in top driving condition during these long cold winter nights.

Check for Anti Freeze. Could be Frozen solid.
Engine coolant should be liquid not a solid. Being from Texas this car may not have enough Ant-Freeze.

If it won't turn over, it sounds like battery or alternator. The knocking is puzzling - if it isn't running, it doesn't make sense.

your engine is cold. I would get help and put it in a spot that is not cold if you have a friend or two just put the car in N and push while someone steers and wait a couple hours.

Cold weather is hard on old or weak batteries. If the battery is three years old or more, I would start looking there.

batteries go bad, cold weather makes it happen faster, $50 to $75 and you'll be rollen again.
