My psychology professor told me that when a person yawns it triggers a reaction in the other person that reminds him or her that is tired and does the same. I believe that's true because my boyfriend doesn't always yawn when I do.

I think that also happens with other behaviors such as moving your leg or some "tic" the person you are watching has and we tend to mimic for one reason or another.

God bless you

cause it disrupts the atmospheric pressure when pressure in your ears 'pop'. and to avoid pressure build up in your ears, we subconsciously protect ourselves when we see others yawning by yawning ourselves to release whatever pressure we have in our ears and prevent the displaced pressure from entering into it.

you don't believe me, do you?

anyway, when we yawn, it replenish our oxygen supply and we feel better afterwards. watching somebody do it, we subconsciously want to feel good ourselves and thus likely to yawn too
