The Census has an updating "population clock" which regularly calculates the current population of the US. At 12:33 GMT today (12/8/06) it was at 300,361,839. At any time you may go to http://www.census.gov to see what the current population of the US and of the world is estimated at.

The "clock" is based on calculations that change every month. Currently the calculation is based on the following (for the month of December): One birth every 8 seconds; one death every 11 seconds; one international migrant (net) every 31 seconds; net gain of one person every 14 seconds.

The last full census count was done in 2000 and at that time the population was 281,421,906.
