Your husband's age is not an issue here; your age is. I had a healthy baby when I was 21 and my partner was 51. As long as you are menstruating, you can surely get pregnant; women have given birth well into their 50's. But, as any doctor will tell you, female fertility decreases after age 35 and chances of having a child with congenital abnormalities increase significantly, specially after maternal age of 40. So you'll probably have a harder time getting pregnant this time around and your chances of having a mentally or otherwise impaired child are higher than if you were younger. Besides, your pregnancy will be considered a high risk one because of your age, as the risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, and complicated delivery are much higher in a 40-something than in a younger woman. But, if you are fairly healthy, don't smoke, and don't have any serious or chronic health conditions, you may want to consider to try for a second child. Just make sure to talk to an Obstetrician who specializes in high-risk pregnancies before you start trying for a baby; this will help you make an intelligent, informed choice. You may also want to take in account the age differences between your first child and this one, and that you'll be dealing with a teenager when you'll be 60 or so. Whatever your decision may be, I wish you the best of luck, and hope that my advise has been of some help.

Yes, but the chances of birth defects and other issues (ie retardation) are incresed as the age of the male increases. Are you having a baby because you want to give it life or is it more selfish than that? Do you really want to bring a baby into this world knowing that you might be setting it up to fail? Good luck!
