I am wondering if a B- grade I got for one of my graduate masters modules would affect my chances of applying to an american university to do a phd in sociology. The grade is not calculated as part of my masters GPA so it does not affect my point score but the grade is reflected in my transcript. Will it affect my chances severely or will other aspects such as GRE, research interest, statement of purpose etc count more?

Contrary to some of the answers you have received, a B minus at the graduate level is never good. At many universities, a B minus can result in loss of funding.

However, it should not severely impact your chances for PhD admission.
Your GRE, statement of purpose, and most importantly, your letters of recommendation and writing sample will count more heavily in admissions.

You are focussing on outputs not outcomes. Sounds like a regurgitator rather than a phd candidate!

I do not think that you'll be introuble. Now if you had said you earned a "C", that might have been a problem.
