usually in order to request an appeal there are criteria that have to be met. it also depends if you were dismissed academically or for disciplinary reasons. if it was for disciplinary reasons there are usually three criteria - failure of fair process, new information that was unavailable at the time of the hearing, or the sanction was too harsh given the violation committed. Your appeal would need to fall under one of those categories. In your letter you should explain why you feel the appeal is warranted given the type of appeal you have chosen.

if it is academic, usually you are put on probation first and then dismissed. in your letter you should start by talking about why you chose your particular institution and what you have been getting out of your experience there. You can talk about why you have been struggling academically and then how you will work to improve.

check your institutions handbook and see what it says about dismissal for academic reasons (how it is done). if the school didn't follow their own set practices for dismissal you may have a case against them and can appeal on those grounds as well/

the important thing is to be honest with the institution and own up to things that you may have or have not done that caused them to dismiss you - for either academic or disciplinary reasons, and explain to them how you would do it differently if given the opportunity to do so.

good luck!
