I need to upgrade my video card (have a PCI card and want AGP- i know PCI-express succeed AGP). How do i know if i have a version 1.1 or 2.0 compliant system? Would either a 2x/4x card or 4x/8x card work or only one of them?

Sorry for the confusion. If I know my system needs a 4x card, would either a 2x/4x card or 4x/8x card work? If there are 2 identical cards, except for one being 2x/4x and one is 4x/8x, how would that change things for gaming/video performance?
