Cleanse, tone and most importantly, moisturize before you put on your foundation. This is to avoid a breakout on your skin and to help as a base for your makeover.
You'll need to have a suitable foundation - either liquid or powder - whichever that suits your skin type well. Generally, liquid foundation is for dry skin while powder foundation is for oily skin. You don't wanna pick the wrong kind of foundation and mess with your skin while your makeover is still on. Apply it and blend thoroughly at the right places on your face (forehead, under your eyes, nose, cheeks), but not too thickly as well.
Next, work on using a concealer (if necessary) to cover up red / pigmentation spots on your face. Blend it really, really well. This should be a tone slightly darker than your skin colour.
Then, dash some facial powder on your face, including your neck. You don't wanna end up having your face and neck of different skin tones! Apply this not too thickly, and blend well onto your skin.
And yes, then move on with the rest of your makeover! Remember, less is more.
Hope this helps.

Only put foundation where you need it. If you have high cheek bones, use a pinkish colour blush, if you have low cheek bones, use a brown eye shadow on your cheek - to do this, suck in your cheeks, to make the fish face, and apply to the darkened area, which should be the area sucked in. Use a standout colour on your eyelids, not an outrageous colour, just one that stands out. If you have light skin, use a light colored lipstick, like a pink colour, or a light red. If you have dark skin, try using a darker red with a glossy finish. If you want to use eyeliner, pull your lower lid down, and apply right above the eyelashes, and also apply thicker on the outside of your lash line, and get thinner the closer you get to your nose. Mascara - waterproof, thickening and/or curling.
I know that it might sound a little odd to put eyeshadow on your cheeks, but doing this can make you look like you have a slimmer face. And it accents your cheekbones, and when you use eyeliner properly, it can accent your eyes, and give you those "Come hither" eyes, that all the girls want.
A good make-up advice mag I use is "all about you". They usually have some pretty good tips about make-up and beauty. All you can do is experiment until you find YOUR look. Don't try to match someone else. Chances are, you won't achieve it. And the more you try, the further you get.

Really not sure how you can achieve this with your current makeup if you haven't been successful in the past. Bare Minerals is VERY good makeup and worth every penny because it evens your skintone out very well. Even if you have a blemish the makeup takes care of it.

first off u need to have a good cleanser and moisturizer. i personally think Cetaphil face wash is Awesome.. really good on sensitive skin. also, u need to exfoliate at least 1 or 2 times a month. u can make a mask w/ uncoated aspirin and honey (or cetaphil). get a bottle @ wal mart for 0.97 cents, and take 4-5 tablets. drop a few drops of water on them, they will soften. add a couple squirts of cetaphil, or some honey. mix, and rub gently all over face. wait at least 30 min or more, and rinse w/ warm water and pat dry. Moisturize!!! this will exfoliate ur skin.
as for skin tone, u need to get Concealer. on a clean moisturized face, apply Concealer to discolored area. it's important to get one that covers and matches ur skin color. then apply foundation on Top. good luck!
tip: what i do every night to brighten my skin tone and texture (as well as combat acne), is apply a thin layer of honey all over my face before i go to bed. honey is a natural anti-bacterial. but u should put a towel on the pillow, and try not to move around while u sleep! sleep on ur back.... :)

you should really get a microdermebrasion kit for at home use. I swear..since I started using the Ponds Microdermebrasion kit, my complexion is more even than it ever was! Not that my skin was horridly blotchy I felt it wasn't even, so I tried it and its even! Your make up should make it flawless after you start using the microdermebrasion kit
It cost less that $15 and worth every cent!

Using moisturiser before putting on the make up will help it spread more evenly.
