I think it's part of the requirement.

Also, a recent survey showed that out of all the US politicians with kids in the military only one is currently serving in Iraq or Afganistan. The rest, and there are quite a few, are all in non combat / USA based posts. Now isn't that a coincidence, and lucky for them.

May seem that way if you only look at the last 2 but like one responder noted, you have had many military men that have served as well. Personally , I believe that if the President is made Commander In Chief because he is the President, then military service should almost be a pre-requisite. That would only make sense. I mean really, would you accept a Secretary of the Treasury that couldn't add?

You know there are requirements for a person to become president. There is one requirement that needs to be added on. The person in office must have served the military. After all if you are the commander and chief shouldn't you know what it's like to but part of it.

With that in mind. President Bush did serve in the military. Remember Dan Rather retired mainly in part because of this blunder.

You cant tar all the presidents with the same brush, look into American history and do some home work, some fought very hard for their country, and along side us during ww2, but the last two where a bid dodgy, excuse the pun.

Lincoln. the guy certainly invented the workplace of the Presidency as all of us know it now. He saved the Union, emancipated the slaves, and prolonged "malice in direction of none" to the rebels. The Gettysburg handle on my own qualifies him because of fact the terrific President. apparently, previously Lincoln human beings used to declare "the united states ARE" (grammatically the terrific option)...after Lincoln human beings now say "the united states IS". somewhat remarkable fellow.

Bush served in the Texas Air National Guard flying over Texas protecting us from cattle while the true heros were in Vietnam.

I recon (it's reckon) someone should remember where former President Clinton was during Viet Nam. He wasn't standing next to me in the mud and bugs.

No, I sure hope not. Now more than ever, we are in need of leaders committed to service to their nation. And that includes service in our Armed Forces.
