Its a tough question that one. We can't judge other countries by our own standards. Are their earnings in line/comparable for similar work in their country?
I've travelled a lot and seen a fair few 'sweatshops' - conditions generally are a lot 'worse' than ours - but the local 'standards' are so different. I've seen a lot of people very happy working in these places. I'm sure there are others where that isn't so.
I've met a lot of happy poor people.
The world is becoming more and more of a global economy and
many businesses now tend to manufacture anywhere in the world where the labour is cheapest. Is this right? Probably not but unstoppable I suspect.
Understanding and empathy must be the way forward.

Of course it is important that our kids are fed and clothed but this should apply to the rest of the world too. And this should apply to all the kids in this country that aren't fed and clothed properly.
So your ancestors earned 50p per week in Victorian times, ever heard of inflation?

Surely we can still eat and be clothed decently without leaving 75% of the world in poverty. £100 for trainers which cost £2 to make. Not only is society (I'm guilty of it too to a lesser extent) contributing to world poverty but we're lining the pockets of fat-cat corporations.
If you'll happily do this, good for you, but try and take a stand and at least attempt to be a bit more ethical. I'm not saying buy only fairtrade/handmade clothes, but just don't got lashing out 100s of pounds on sh1te just because it's got a brand on it, it'll only lead to your kids being fashion victims and (in all probability) broke trying to keep up with trends.

The ironic thing is that, if we start paying these people better, our products will be able to compete better with theirs! In fact, with all this development in the former 3rd world, our products will be better placed. Equality works!
