sounds like two households expense . That's why we have a lack of money to pay good wages and let people better their own conditions. and so I would say . That is a rich child's dream that should not be shouldered on the world. Thanks for the Q.

They did, Ares/Orion but funding was cut. Now the plan is to go to an asteroid. Note, they have found water on the moon and on mars. Personally, I prefer the original Project Orion from the late 50's. Nothing like launching a spaceship the size of a Marriott hotel with a crew of 200 for a tour of Saturn's moons. Only takes a thousand or so atomic bombs to do it.

Both are required. With that money you can surely feed lots of people for certain number of days. Yet the knowledge base need to be expanded. The colony on the moon is not for partying. The people going there for various experiments will be risking their lives for the betterment of human.
If you really want to make difference to the needy people start in your own neighbour and set example for others.
I don't mean to offend U.

Absolutely not...what a ridiculous idea...

The money could be put to much better use sorting out this planets problems.

Ahhh...on second thoughts...it's a great idea. Let's get it built and send all the politicians, convicts, rapists, muggers, murderers, druggies, drug dealers, religious fanatics and zealots, racists, etc etc etc, to go and live there and sort themselves out...

Any amount spent on research and development is rewarding. There is no price for knowledge.
Due to lack of organization and commitment money already available for human issues is not fully utilized.
