it was created by matt stone and trey parker and there is an urban myth that they created the show from an experience when they were on acid...apparently they were tripping and were creating weird voices (chef and cartman are examples).although this apparently isnt true....they had to do film making while in college and their class was asked to make short films...matt and trey were teamed up and they decided to make a cartoon to piss off everyone else since everyone was doin arty stuff....they put it on the internet and it got popular...they were made to make another one for $700 and later that cartoon, the spirit of christmas, got turned into south park

Trey Parker & Matt Stone: They made the South Park children as a gift for their friends birthday. A little birthday cartoon on the computer because they had no money to buy a gift. Thats how it all began! It's a great cartoon.
