A friend can be either male or female. As a friend, he/she will be there for me when I want to laugh and when I want to cry. When I am feeling sorry for myself she/he will shake me real good and tell me to snap out of it and move on. If I am being a ***** or unreasonable, he/she will tell me to take a look in the mirror and then hug me when I see the monster looking back at me.
My friend will call me regardless what time it is and ask for my help and support.
This kind of friend does not come around in everyones life, but I am lucky to have two of them. One is my husband and the other my dear friend Carol who lives in New Zealand. God bless them both.

Could you just clarify this question please?
Joe, I really don't know what I see in people. I know if they are a Friend and I no longer see them I miss them if I feel they were a true friend.
Friendships are complicated and precious and few and far between. Friendship means you have to go over the boarder of being an acquaintance, which includes Love Trust which must be reciprocated. Knowing someone as a Friend is an exchange of feelings and certain understandings. Friendship that are one sided in understanding and information don't really work in my experience. Respect is a massive thing in friendship as well and nurture. And Good will,,,, lol lolllll bog I'm gonna shut up now.
I have a friend (not on line) who tells me everything. I am so fond of her, but she never listens to me, there is never a gap big enough for me to say anything. Her expectations of me are almost to much and often I can't cope with her because I am not valued. I have come to terms with my position in her life however she will never know me, so our friendship will never be deep. I wont reject her as a Friend because I like her very much, she's funny and has a good heart. One day she might open her ears, but not yet.
The things that put me off friendship are: manipulation, provocation to Jealousy and competitiveness. lol do I ask to much?

None - I have aquantances now - had a close friend of 18 years who got too involved in my family and personal life - the old saying - familiarity grows contempt. In the end I had to tell her to keep out of my problems and get a hold of her own and sort them out. We dont speak anymore. I now keep myself to myself and am alot happier. Long story. I'm now happy in my own company with husband and grown up children - not forgetting the dog.

I know a lot about friendship so I can help you. A friend in need is a friend in deed but when they're not in need any more they won't be your friend.
That's not true. The British Royal Family are good friends to us all.
