My answer to you is, help someone else who could be loney too over this festive season. Do a little of "giving" not materialisticly, but of yourself.
I assume you have heard of the Salvation Army, they always need helpers in one way or another. Homeless shelters are another place you may consider helping out. Believe me you will have such a feeling of self worth if you do. Try it.

I totally feel your pain here... I have missed the last 2 Christmasses and it looks as though I will now be missing my 3rd shortly. I would suggest that you do a variety of things,.. for starters like somone already suggested, web cam it up, or chat, voice over IP, whatever, to be in touch with your loved ones some. Or if you are able to call,.. its definatly better than nothing.
I would also say if you have any friends over there invite them to hang out with you on christmas even if its just to have lunch somewhere or to chillax at your place for a little while.
I would also say it it comes down to being alone and such,.. rent some good movies and relax. Or do something else you enjoy...
I hope you find some happiness this Christmas :)

Go to the local pub and you are sure to find some other folks spending Christmas alone. If that's not your scene you could try going to a Christmas church service. Maybe the magic of Christmas will preside and you'll figure it out. I think your offer of Christmas in a nightclub is maybe a good one to take up seeing as you got invited (so you'll know people there) plus, you're all ready doing something different so you might as well go really different. Really, its just a day. Jesus' birthday is March and Winter Solstice is the 22nd.

Perhaps ask a friend to share Christmas with you. You can exchange gifts and have a nice Christmas dinner. It will make the holiday a little bit easier and give you a chance to get closer to someone.
As well you might want to have your family send video messages to you, or better yet you could get yourself and your family webcams and you could chat via webcam on Christmas day.

Loneliness is a state of mind and no one likes loneliness.
Being alone is a choice, if you are with friends at Christmas then you are not lonely and it matters little where you are.
Most people think about home at this time of the year, i do not live in the country of my birth at the moment but still enjoy the holidays as i can be with friends and enjoy myself.
There are no such thing as strangers, they are only friends you have not spoken to yet.

Try going to an old age home or an orphanage..... entertain the kids or the grandparents....since it's only in giving that we truly receive!
THat is the gist of the Christmas Spirit!

Church service - Salvation Army - perhaps think of others like a U.S.O. Military base, Nursing Home, Retirement home, ask the local police Dept. they may be able to help.
