Difficult to write all the steps down here, but you can have a look at the following for some guidance http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/DIY/how_to.htm
This is certainly 'do-able', if you have the patience....
You will need a cassette player (!), PC with a stereo input to soundcard, conversion software and CD writer.
Note: if you are using a laptop, you may need a USB external soundcard (mine has only a mono mic input – not good enough!) – you can get cheap, simple but effective ones (from Hong Kong) via ebay…
You could get someone to do it for you, there are plenty to choose from out on the web, this type of job is perfect for a 'virtual' studio.
As regards the software .. you will find loads out there. Audacity is free and fairly popular, you will need an extra dll file to export as an MP3 - visit http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/download.htm where you wil find link to the software and a downloadable step-by-step instruction sheet in PDF (adobe acrobat) format.
You can also get advice on the copyright issues http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/copy.htm
Hope this helps

i'm not exactly sure but my best guess would be to record the songs on ur audio cassette to cd then put the songs on the cd on ur mp3 player. the recording i think could be done with almost and sounds system with a cassette player and a CD player both on it

you need:
a casette player
a computer with a sound card
an audio cable to connect your casette output to you sound-card input (usually dual RCA - to - stereo mini-jack)
audio recording and MP3 conversion software

As for the software- there is lots available for free download on the 'net. For example check out freecorder at http://www.applian.com/freecorder/index.php?src=GFREE_AUDIO
The nice thing about this is it'll record streight to MP3.

Then all you need to do is press play on your casette player and record on your PC.

Note of caution: if you copy material that has a copyright then that's not legal. If you distribute your copy to others you might just run foul of the law. Use it/ don't use it.
