I had the 2 stitches in my knee removed today after 10 days. It didnt bleed at first and the doctor was pleased how well it had sealed up. But then I got on my bike (she hadnt said I couldnt!)... and I felt it spring open. I have quite a lot of blood on the inside of my trousers. I disinfected it and put a plaster over it to avoid my trousers rubbing. She did say some bleeding is normal... but how much??
If it is still bleeding later, should I go back?

They only did a biopsy to see why I had a rash. It was a very small area. I had the stitches out this morning and it only bled for a short while. it has now stopped... but I wanted to know whether I should worry if it does it again this evening when I cycle home.

You did not tell us how long this has been going on ... just that a pair of trousers is stained and that you put "a plaster" which means "one"- on the area ..... so it looks to me as though it is just recently ..... so, if it continues to bleed, I personally
would be surprised because blood clots and stops bleeding, and 2 little stitches implies a small area .... in any case, it is best to check with a doctor if it appears serious.

Bleeding After Suture Removal

Stitches normally come out 10-14 days after suturing. However, in your case, the wound has not healed fully yet. Fully healed wounds do not bleed anymore after stitch removal. Yes, you should go back. Your doctor might need to apply a butterfly tape on the wound so that it wouldn't gape.

Well, course bleeding is normal, and it is probably bleeding more than usual because it is reopened, it was getting plenty of blood after it healed because it was working on repairing the stuff, and now it is reopened. The time only deffers on your blood, is it thick or thin? how much oxygen does it get from your blood and from the outside? Pressure should stop the bleeding, but the time of pressure depends on the same parameters. I can't tell, cuz I don't know the specifics.

I had stitches in my left palm, and I'll tell you that it was actually quite painless, but... I didn't bleed after they were removed because they were in for so long, like 18 days. But, I remained inactive for another 2 weeks (workwise) and it never tore back open. Go back and talk to your doctor! Next time you get stitches you'll think about waiting until it's MUCH better than 10 days... like, one month.

It should have healed quite a bit with the stitches in there. I don't know how much of the wound reopened, but it should be okay if it's not really bad. Just keep a close eye on it so it doesn't get infected. Get better.

Sounds like you split it open on your bike. Not a good idea to do that! I doubt if it will be a problem unless it is still bleeding after an hour or so.

if its bleeding you should go to the doc again. you dont want infection and scares will show more if its not heald togeather well.
sense it ripped open again.. that bad. it a smaller cut you could wrap it and clean it every day but on your knee that lil worry for me because its apart of th skin that streches more..im not a pro but to avoid any healh problem id go have a nurse or doc look at it!! get better! :P

That was incredibly stupid to go on your bike. Go back and have it closed.
