I'm 37 weeks and I believe that is full term, but I read different opinions on this. I go weekly to the dr, who seems totally unconcerned by my recent symptoms but since this is my first baby I am worried about everything!!! I'm starting to dilate (1 cm) and feel constant pressure and cramping, like I'd feel if I was getting my period. I've been active and exercised throughout but suddenly I feel like I'm too tired and sore to continue my regimen. My dr said not to worry until I'm having regular contractions at 5 minutes or my water breaks. Are the cramps a sign that labor could be close, and if so, am I at a safe time in the pregnancy to deliver a healthy baby?

I believe it is 38 weeks. However, I had both my babies at 37 weeks and they were completely fine. At 37 weeks your baby would not even be considered a premie or anything. It is kind of a "buffer" week. Not too early, but they want you to wait anyway!

Trust your doctor.

Yes, cramps & fatigue are a sign that labor is getting near.

Dialating is a good sign. You have to get all the way to 10 cm, and you must be 100% effaced (thinned out). It can take a few days to get there.

Go to the hospital when the cramps (contractions) are 5 minutes apart OR when they are so bad you can't stand them anymore.

Believe it or not, walking helps alot with the pain & restlessness of just "waiting," and also it helps to speed the birthing process along.

Don't worry......just try to enjoy the experience. You will feel like supermom when the ordeal is over, not afraid of anything, because you have given birth to a child! I know I felt invincible, anyway.

Congratulations!

37 Weeks is correct and I am 38 weeks and I feel the same thing, it is normal. Have you lost your mucus plug yet? I have not been checked yet so I don't know if I am dilated but I am too exhausted and have period like cramps but not too often. Our body is preparing itself for the birth. I am sure you will deliver a very healthy baby. Please contact me if you need to talk or have anymore questions. Thanks When are you due? I was due the 27th but an ultrasound pushed to the 21st.

I was induced at 37 weeks with both of my babies and they said that 37 weeks is full term but it could take as long as 42-43 weeks before a baby comes. Best of luck to you and your baby, and yes you are full term and if you go in to labor now, they would not stop it.

38 weeks is ocnsidered term, if it is your first baby don't hold your breath, they won't induce until 41 weeks. at this point i would say you have at least 2 weeks to go, it seems like somehting is happening but you can be dilated a month! i was and had contrax for 4 weeks, don't worry, trust your dr! sleep alot, you'll need it!
